Facing Death

Death and dying is an integral part of life, yet it is also one of the most challenging aspects to deal with as a medical professional. On top of the powerlessness comes the heaviness of being exposed to the dying person's fears and anxiety. Often, there is the feeling of a sense of failure when we cannot cure the patient. This often drives us away from the dying patient. Yet in this most important time of life for the patient, when he or she is dying, is the time they need us the most. You will learn: - to be non-judgmental in the face of dying - to be as stable and calm as possible - to be there for a dying patient in a natural compassionate fashion - to be grateful for the life the dying person has lived - that silence is often golden - that we don’t have to fix anything - that just being present for the dying person is extremely beneficial
